Sarah: The scene in this book with the older brother and sister having a party reminded me of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. In The Perks of being a Wallflower, the main character's older siblings had a party, and he stayed in his room. In Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the main character's older brother had a party, and he locked the main character in the basement.
Nina: Charlie reminds me a lot of Holden from The Catcher in The Rye. The pair of them are both very intelligent, but not in the "standard" way. They have a really unique viewpoint on society. Also, both seem like timeless characters. Charlie and Holden have a lot of traits that adolescents identify with, and I like both characters because they're outsiders looking in.
We will read up to part 4 for the next meeting.
Meeting #3
Though-provoking questions:
Nina- Does the main character (Charlie) have Asberger's Syndrome? He seems very socially awkward and he has a very high intelligence. He has all of the symptoms.
Sarah- Are some of Charlie's (the main character) really friends, or do they just associate with him because they find him amusing? Some of his friends seem kind of odd, and some treat him like a real friend. Which ones are his real friends? Does he even have any real friends?
We will finish the book for next week.

What we liked about the book and what we didn't like.
Nina: I liked the writing and I thought that all of the characters were very believable and beautiful in their realistic-ness. I did not like the vague ending. I understood why they tried to make it vague, but it was a little too unclear.
Sarah: I liked the writing style and the character development. I also thought that it was a very captivating story. I did not like all of the references to drugs, alcohol, and sex, and I did not like how the character in the book was involved in all of these things.
